PAGE Five Announces the 2024 Tami Richardson Gifted & Talented Scholarship Winner


Irmo, South Carolina – Abigail White, a 2024 graduate of Chapin High School and daughter of Amy and Eric White, is the recipient of PAGE Five’s 2024 Tami Richardson Gifted & Talented Scholarship. This is a $1,000 merit-based scholarship.  She will be attending the University of South Carolina where she will be in the Honors College and major in Nursing.  After college, Ms. White plans to work as a nurse and go on to anesthesia school to become a Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA). 

One G&T program experience that Ms. White found particularly influential was the Biomedical Innovations class at the Center for Advanced Technical Studies. “My second year, I received a grant [from the District Five Foundation for Educational Excellence] to create my own research project which continued to spark my interest in helping others, in particular, my Nana with Macular Degeneration.” White reflected.

In addition to taking numerous courses for gifted students, she also participated in extracurricular activities in high school.  Throughout high school, Ms. White was involved in many clubs and honors societies including National Technical Honors Society, National Honors Society, National Spanish Honors Society, National Beta Club, and Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA). She also participated in Chapin Track and Field, Chapin Cross Country, and Chapin Lacrosse, and Varsity lettered 14X in these sports. Ms. White holds multiple track and cross country records at Chapin High School: 1600m, “true” one mile, 1500m, 3200m, 800m, 4x800m, “true” two mile, DMR, 4x1600m, 5k cross country record for 7th, 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th grade. Ms. White added “My love and ability for running has given me the opportunity of earning a scholarship to run collegiately on the D1 level for UofSC!”  

To be eligible for the PAGE Five Tami Richardson Gifted & Talented Scholarship, applicants must be high school seniors in good standing at a District Five high school and participants in International Baccalaureate (IB), Advanced Placement (AP), and/or Honors courses. They must also be on course to graduate from high school in the spring and enroll in college for the fall term of the same year.  Additionally, they are required to submit an application and essay.  Each candidate is rated equally on their academic achievements and the quality of their essay.       


PAGE Five is a volunteer, non-profit support network for parents, educators, policy-makers, and residents of School District Five of Lexington and Richland counties who are interested in enhancing education and advocating for gifted and talented students in School District Five.  Members of the organization promote education for gifted and talented students, disseminate information on and build awareness about gifted education, provide enrichment opportunities, and assist families with scholarships and tuition aid for gifted students.
