Ebonee Davis, a 2023 graduate of Dutch Fork High School and daughter of Angelia Davis, is the recipient of PAGE Five’s 2023 Tami Richardson Gifted & Talented Scholarship. This is a $1,000 merit-based scholarship. She will be attending the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) where she will major in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering. Ms. Davis plans to work in the highly interdisciplinary field of imaging technology.

Blaisdell Aplin, recent graduate of Dutch Fork High School and daughter of Susan and Ben Aplin, is the recipient of PAGE Five’s annual $1,000 merit scholarship. She will be attending the South Carolina Honors College at the University of South Carolina where she will major in business. She also plans to pursue a master’s degree in business and hopes to one day own her own business or work in the marketing or data analytics department of a large company.

Five parents of gifted students in Lexington-Richland School District Five were recently elected to serve on the Board of Directors of PAGE Five. They include Andrea Wildemann, representative for parents of gifted students in elementary school; Barbara Graham, representative for gifted students in intermediate/middle school; Ava Dean, representative for parents of gifted students in high school; Katie Phillips, at-large director; and Brandi Sturdevant, at-large director.

“Our members are so fortunate to have each of these individuals as part of the Board of Directors,” said PAGE Five President, Dr. Telesia Davis. “They each bring with them a wealth of professional experience, in addition to personal experiences with having children in District Five."

Members of PAGE Five recently elected officers for the 2020-2021 school year. The officers-elect include Telesia Davis, president; Barb Waldman, vice president; Satya Koganti, secretary, and Rebecca Albrecht, treasurer. After a couple years hiatus from elections, this year’s election coincides with a move to reinvigorate the organization and build on its past success. Waldman, active since 2004, and Davis, active for about six years, will welcome newcomers Koganti and Albrecht to the Board of Directors when their terms begin on July 1.

Applications are open for the PAGE Five Scholarship, a $1,000 scholarship awarded to a graduating senior who is in good standing at a District Five high school, a participant in Gifted and Talented courses (IB, AP and/or Honors), and an applicant to college for the Fall 2020 term.

The Board of Directors recently announced that PAGE Five, registered with the state and federal governments as Parent Advocates for Gifted Education in LRD5, is now officially recognized as a 501(c)(3) organization. This comes a little over three months after convening a planning committee to re-invingorate the organization.

PAGE Five, in partnership with the College Funding Center of SC, announced winners of its Junior Achievers Challenge (JAC) during the District Five School Board meeting in March. Directed at gifted learners from elementary schools in the district, the JAC focused on inspiring entrepreneurship in ambitious business-kids through hands-on business ventures.

PAGE Five presented an information session for gifted arts students and their parents on Monday, November 18 at the District Five Office to provide them with information about the Tri-District Arts Consortium (Tri-DAC) Summer 2020 Program. The program is a hands-on, three-week summer experience for rising sixth through rising ninth grade students who are gifted in creative writing, dance, music (vocal, strings and wind-percussion), theatre, and visual arts.
