PAGE Five Achieves 501(c)(3) Status

Published on 3/30/2020

Irmo, South Carolina – The Board of Directors recently announced that PAGE Five, registered with the state and federal governments as Parent Advocates for Gifted Education in LRD5, is now officially recognized as a 501(c)(3) organization.  This comes a little over three months after convening a planning committee to re-invingorate the organization.  “This is just the first of many steps the planning committee is taking to bring our mission to life,” said Planning Committee Coordinator Telesia Davis. “We are excited about what this means for PAGE Five, its members, and its generous sponsors, and we look forward to achieving many more milestones as we embark on a bold, new vision for supporting gifted and talented education in District Five.”

The new status makes PAGE Five exempt from federal income tax under the Internal Revenue Code Section 501(c)(3).  As a result, donors can deduct contributions, and PAGE Five can accept tax deductible bequests, devises, transfers, or gifts.  The IRS set the effective date of exemption as November 27, 2019, so donations made to the organization after that date are eligible for tax deduction to the extent allowable by law.

Members of the planning committee who drafted new bylaws that were approved by the Board of Directors and completed all the local and federal applications necessary to secure this new status include Telesia Davis, chair; Ava Dean, PAGE Five Vice President; Barbara Graham; Barb Waldman, PAGE Five President; and Andrea Wildemann.

PAGE Five is a volunteer, non-profit support network for parents, educators, policy-makers, and residents of School District Five of Lexington and Richland counties who are interested in enhancing and advocating education for gifted and talented students in School District Five.  Members of the organization promote education for gifted and talented students, disseminate information on and build awareness about gifted education, provide enrichment opportunities, and assist families with scholarships and tuition aid for gifted students.
